Surabaya, AAD Today - Ali Azhar D, a content creator who often shares content about history, culture, tourism, and youth issues, shares his views on the development of the Earth Alms tradition in Javanese society.

"Sedekah Bumi (earth alms) is a ritual full of meaning and noble values that we should preserve together," said Ali Azhar D in an interview with us.

According to him, this tradition represents the gratitude of the Javanese people for the abundant crops. "It contains a philosophy of harmonization between humans, nature and ancestors that is very valuable," he added.

However, Ali Azhar D admits that Sedekah Bumi is not immune to the influence of changing times. He gave an example of a shift in the culinary procession in the ritual.

"In the past, slaughtering goats was a mandatory dish in the kenduri. However, now we rarely see it. The use of tumpeng has replaced other traditional dishes," he explains.

In addition, Ali Azhar D also highlighted changes in the arts that accompany the Sedekah Bumi ritual. "The Tayuban dance that is synonymous with Sedekah Bumi has now been assimilated into modern culture, such as the addition of yells and contemporary dances. In fact, the use of the 'Horeg' sound system has also changed the atmosphere that was supposed to be solemn and serene."

Nevertheless, Ali Azhar D emphasizes the importance of maintaining the values contained in this tradition. He sees great potential in utilizing digital technology to preserve Sedekah Bumi.

"Documentation through video, social media and other digital platforms can help increase the knowledge and appreciation of the public, especially the younger generation, for this cultural heritage," he says.

In addition, Ali Azhar D also highlighted the need for collaboration between stakeholders, such as local governments, community leaders, and cultural communities, to revitalize Sedekah Bumi.

"In this way, this tradition can continue to be an integral part of Javanese cultural identity and become an inspiration for many people," he concluded.
