Surabaya, AAD Today - Ali Azhar Damarrosydi or familiarly called Ali Azhar D, a content creator from Surabaya and a student of Communication Science at Ciputra University (UC) Surabaya, shared his debut experience in the film industry. His journey started from collaborating with the Surabaya City Government to being involved in the production of films that won international awards.
Debut Collaborating with the Government
"Yes, my team and I made a public service announcement in collaboration with the Surabaya City Government regarding illegal loan sharks," said Ali. After that, his career continued by joining the crew behind the scene (BTS) of the short film "Spiral" on July 28, 2024, and recently on November 22 became a talent in the company profile of PT Sumber Plastik.
Challenges as a Newcomer
Ali admits that the world of film provides its own challenges for him. "It's exciting because the first time I joined a movie is not easy," he said. He explained that being an actor requires high professionalism, especially in harmonizing facial expressions and intonation.
"The most exciting challenge in my opinion is making a movie from morning to morning again and then continuing until night," he said. Despite experiencing health problems on the second day of filming, the production team managed to overcome them by rearranging the schedule.
From Boarding School to Screen
Ali's background as a boarding school alumnus provides a unique perspective on his journey. "In terms of experience, I haven't had any experience in filmmaking, because I am an alumnus of an Islamic boarding school who does not know technology, this makes me a challenge in my opinion," he explained.
Achievements and Recent Works
Ali's portfolio includes several notable productions, including the PSA "Pinjol - Gali Lubang Tutup Lubang", the movie "Spiral" with 8 Scene Picture, and the company profile of PT Sumber Plastik. He is proud to share that "Spiral" has won the official selection award from Indonesia Western Australia Film Festival (IWAFF) 2025 and Muda Award Moviement 2024.

Closing the conversation, Ali delivered a motivational message: "Well, even though I am just a beginner in the world of film, I am not broken by things that make me doubt, make that ignorance an experience to change for the better."
