Nearly four years after legally changing his name from his birth name to Ye, the "Stronger" rapper has appeared to make another switch.
His chief financial officer Hussain Lalani recently referred to West as Ye Ye in multiple filings concerning the 48-year-old's businesses sent to the California Secretary of State. In the documents, obtained by E! News June 10, Ye Ye was listed as the "manager or member" of West's companies Yeezy Apparel, Yeezy Record Label and Ox Paha Inc.
It's unclear if West himself has also filed documents to legally change his name.
In California, it is required by law to broadcast a name change request in the local newspaper before the petition is seen by a judge. As the website for the state's courts noted, "You must publish in a newspaper of general circulation that publishes legal notices in the county where you file your case."
In the past, West—who shares kids North, 11, Saint, 9, Chicago, 7, and Psalm , 6, with ex Kim Kardashian—said he was drawn to the word "ye" for a name because it's "the most commonly used word in the Bible."
"In the Bible, it means 'you,'" he explained in a 2018 interview with radio host Big Boy. "So, I'm you, I'm us, it's us. It went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye—just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confusion, everything."
At the time, West also named his eighth studio album Ye, explaining that it was "more of a reflection of who we are."
"I wanted something that felt with the energy," he continued. "Just with the universe was giving me, I wanted to matched that energy."
Last month, West announced he was stepping away from his verified account on X (formerly Twitter) that boasts more than 33 million followers since the handle was still under his birth name.
"Ima finally stop using the @kanyewest twitter cause my name is Ye," he wrote on May 31. "Gonna start a ye account and it is what it is."
